The highest flow computed over those 50 years would correspond to an event occurring once in that period\u2014a 50-year return period\u2014while the second-highest flow would correspond to an event occurring twice in 50 years, i.e., a 25-year return period.<\/p><p>Since running computations with hydraulic models remains time-consuming, in most cases it would take too long to simulate 50 continuous years of rainfall to perform a capacity assessment of a pipe network. It is therefore still an impractical approach.<\/p><p>To address the issue of long computation times, practitioners have for many years used synthetic design storms derived from rainfall statistics for use in hydraulic calculations. Because the computations are performed with a hydrological model, the block storms are inserted into an actual precipitation time series, ensuring that the storages (reservoirs) in the model have a natural filling level at the start of each block storm.<\/p><p>After the computations, some pipes will exhibit their highest flow for a block storm with a 15-minute duration. Others will peak for a block storm lasting 3 hours, and so on.<\/p><p>We compared the results from block-storm simulations with those from modelling all significant rainfall events over a 50-year precipitation record. The block-storm approach shows relatively good agreement with the statistically more rigorous \u201call storms\u201d method.<\/p><p>In our projects, we have therefore largely adopted the use of block storms when estimating how frequently flooding can be expected to occur in the stormwater and wastewater system.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element Siden det fortsatt er tidkrevende \u00e5 kj\u00f8re beregninger med hydrauliske modeller vil det i de fleste tilfelle ta for lang tid \u00e5 kj\u00f8re 50 \u00e5r sammenhengende med nedb\u00f8r for \u00e5 kj\u00f8re en kapasitetsberegning for et ledningsnett. Det er alts\u00e5 fortsatt en upraktisk metode. For \u00e5 l\u00f8se dette problemet med lange beregningstider, er det siden mange \u00e5r tilbake benyttet metoder der en konstruerer regn, basert p\u00e5 regnstatistikk som da igjen benyttes i hydrauliske beregninger. Kasseregn, CDS regn, Sifalda regn, trekantregn er eksempler p\u00e5 dette. I Svenskt Vatten Utveckling Rapport Nr 2016-15 \u201d Riktlinjer f\u00f6r modellering av spillvattenf\u00f6rande system och dagvattensystem\u201d finner vi disse figurene som beskriver eksempel p\u00e5 CDS regn og det som betegnes som blockregn: For \u00e5 konstruere blokkregnet lager en kasseregn for alle varigheter, typisk fra 5 minutter til ett d\u00f8gn for samme gjentak. For eksempel 10 \u00e5rs gjentak, basert p\u00e5 IVF kurver fra met.no. Hver kasse plasseres tidsmessig i avstand slik at beregning for forrige kasseregn ikke p\u00e5virker neste kasseregn. Siden vi gj\u00f8r beregninger med en hydrologisk modell plasseres kasseregnene i en virkelig tidsserie med nedb\u00f8rdata, slik at magasinene i den hydrologiske modellen har en naturlig oppfylling ved start av kasseregnene. Etter beregning vil noen ledninger f\u00e5 st\u00f8rst vannf\u00f8ring for et kasseregn med varighet 15 minutter. Noen ledninger vil f\u00e5 st\u00f8rst vannf\u00f8ring for et kasseregn med varighet 3 timer osv. Vi har sammenlignet resultatene fra beregninger med blokkregn med resultater for \u00e5 kj\u00f8re alle signifikante nedb\u00f8rhendelser for 50 \u00e5r med nedb\u00f8r. Blokkregn har vist seg \u00e5 gi et relativt godt samsvar med den statistisk mer korrekte metoden med \u00e5 gj\u00f8re beregning for \u00aballe regn\u00bb. I v\u00e5re prosjekter har vi derfor i stor grad g\u00e5tt over til \u00e5 benytte blokkregn n\u00e5r vi vil beregne hvor ofte en vil kunne forvente \u00e5 oppleve oversv\u00f8mmelse i overvann- og avl\u00f8pssystemet.
