Instrumentation of overflow structures and rain gauges, in collaboration with Miljø- og Fluidteknikk (MFT).

Bodø Municipality’s water and wastewater department has installed a number of particle-separating transverse overflow structures equipped with scum baffles and flow regulators. This reduces pollution and provides good hydraulic control.

The overflow units are prefabricated in GRP in Norway and designed with a calibrated weir (FluidWing).

Fluidwing
FluidWing is a prefabricated weir profile. The weir has been tested and calibrated, so the relationship between upstream head and discharge over the weir is known.
This makes it possible to measure discharge by measuring the water level upstream of the weir. The wing profile ensures a stable, uniform flow cross-section, enabling reliable measurements even at low flows. You can read more about FluidWing on MFT’s website here:

In collaboration with MFT, we have instrumented overflow structures and installed year-round precipitation gauges across the municipality, each equipped with a heated collection bottle and a temperature sensor.
Data from the overflow structures and precipitation gauges are transmitted to a web interface, which displays precipitation, the number of overflow events, operating time, and overflow volume.
