New metering rig with a NIVUS NivuFlow 750 for process water at the Klemetsrud waste-to-energy plant.

The Klemetsrud energy recovery facility is a combined heat and power (CHP) plant and waste-to-energy incineration facility in Oslo, commissioned in 1985. The plant is owned and operated by Hafslund Celsio, Norway’s largest district heating provider.
The facility had a process-water discharge meter based on level measurement over a weir, whose accuracy was in doubt. Since the Oslo Water and Sewerage Agency has set a maximum discharge limit, it is important to have an accurate, permanent flow measurement for the plant.
To install the new metering rig, we began by core-drilling an opening in the existing cross-section.

To prevent water pressure from pushing the front of the metering rig past the cross-section edge, the pipe was secured with an anchor on the inside of the wall.

To enable accurate flow measurement, we built a metering rig whose measurement section comprises a 315 mm pipe with a straight run exceeding ten times the internal diameter, helping ensure favorable hydraulic conditions with laminar flow over the sensors.
For visual inspection of the flow conditions and to facilitate cleaning, open slots are provided at the top of the pipe.
The logger used in the installation is a NIVUS NivuFlow 750. The sensors measuring velocity and level are a cross-correlation mini velocity sensor (CSM) and an ultrasonic level sensor (CSM-D).

The metering rig, combined with NIVUS’s cross-correlation flow meter, delivers accurate flow measurements and enables straightforward operation and monitoring.
All work was carried out as a turnkey delivery by Rosim.
